With the IPCC AR5 report preparation well underway, sea level rise, glacial isostatic adjustment and ice mass balance are very much at the forefront of scientific interest. The aims and objectives of SLALOM2012 are as follows:

-Post LGM ice sheet
-Sea-level reconstructions
-Space geodetic observations of ice mass balance

Although this is the final conference for COST Action ES0701 "Improved constraints on models of glacial isostatic adjustment" it is a completely open meeting and we invite you all to submit abstracts. Conference numbers are limited to provide a focused meeting.

Please join our annual gathering of international researchers to present your work on any aspect of high-latitude environments (past, present, and future). We strive for a relaxed, friendly, and interactive experience, fostered in part by our relatively small size. And unlike most meetings, you can present your very latest research; the abstract deadline is only 3 weeks before the Workshop. Student participation is strongly encouraged, with partial support available to those making presentations (limited number of slots).

The meeting is open to all interested in the Arctic, and will consist of a series of talks and poster sessions covering all aspects of high-latitude environments. Previous Arctic Workshops have included presentations on arctic and antarctic climate, archeology, environmental geochemistry, geomorphology, hydrology, glaciology, soils, ecology, oceanography, Quaternary history, and more. A traditional strength of the Workshop has been Arctic paleoenvironments.

The focus for the 2012 meeting is "Northern People and Landscapes in Times of Change." Sensitivity to change has always been a hallmark of Northern communities. The anthropological and archaeological historical record gives witness to tremendous endurance, creativity, and resilience in the face of climate, ecological, and social change. This record also provides insights into the limits of resilience, wrenching conflicts, and profound tragedies from broad to very local and personal scales.

Organizers encourage symposia and individual presentations focusing on the ever more pressing need to understand the human dimensions of changing landscapes. Welcoming the eclectic mix of presentations that makes each annual meeting fresh and engaging, organizers look especially for contributions that seek to draw lessons for the future from research
into the peoples and cultures of past and present.

This joint meeting is an international gathering of more than 4,000 attendees and is being sponsored by The Oceanography Society, the American Society of Limnology and Oceanography and the American Geophysical Union.

The Scientific Planning Committee is developing a program that will cover a wide range of topics in aquatic sciences. The workshop offers opportunities to learn details of the scientific outfitting of the new vessel and to network with other scientists. The draft schedule and details of the science sea trials will be presented and discussed. The workshop is scheduled to facilitate proposal submission deadlines in preparation for Sikuliaq funded science in early 2014.

The workshop is to take place from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with refreshments being provided both days. Dinner will be provided on Saturday, February 18th, and lunch will be provided on Sunday, February 19th. Workshop participants who are also attending the 2012 Ocean Sciences Meeting will be supported for their extra nights of lodging. Limited funds for airfare may be available for those without travel funds if prearranged with the Sikuliaq Project Support Office.

A workshop to present the new SMOS ice thickness product, as well as the scientific and technical outcome of the ESA SMOSIce study will take place at the KlimaCampus of the University of Hamburg. Potential participants are modelers, sea ice remote sensing and assimilation experts, as well as representatives from operational ice services and international projects (e.g. CliC, CCI) and potential data users. Contributions, conclusions and recommendations from the participants will be compiled in a workshop report.

Organizers of the Community Earth System Model - Polar Climate Working Group Meeting announce a call for presentations. The meeting will be held 15-17 February 2012 in Boulder, Colorado at the National Center for
Atmospheric Research Mesa Laboratory.

The meeting is open to anyone who would like to attend, and all topics are welcomed. If you would like to give a short presentation about your work, please send a title via email (eclare [at] lanl.gov or jenkay [at] ucar.edu) by Monday, 16 January 2012. The agenda will be organized around the topics submitted. Additionally, a portion of the time will be dedicated to meeting jointly with the Land Ice Working Group and the Paleoclimate Working Group.

This meeting is sponsored by the British Geophysical Association/Royal Astronomical Society as the New Advances in Geophysics Meeting 2012.

Applied geophysics, together with more fundamental theoretical and forward and inverse modelling advances, has played a major role in the exploration of the world’s ice masses and their geological settings and sedimentological legacies for more than half a century. Geophysical techniques have also proven to be highly suited for the characterisation of the properties of and processes within permafrost and seasonally frozen ground, as well as those within snow and other frozen materials. Geophysical exploration, often qualitatively or quantitatively integrated with other geoscientific methods and findings, has thus resulted in many exciting discoveries and case studies.

We cordially invite contributions from all areas of geophysics and associated disciplines as applied or relevant to present-day ice masses, ice cores, frozen ground or snow. Likewise, we are keen to receive contributions on the application of geophysical and associated techniques to glacial materials and products to reconstruct past ice masses, dynamics, and hydrology.

The WRSA meeting includes a series of Remote Regions/Northern Development sessions to accommodate social scientists who have a special interest in research on economic, social, political, and cultural issues in remote, sparsely settled regions in the circumpolar north and elsewhere. In the past, researchers from Canada, Alaska, Hawaii, Greenland, Finland, Scandinavia, Australia, New Zealand, Micronesia, Israel, and Russia have presented papers in these sessions, which are in their thirtieth year.

Registration is now open for the Alpine Glaciology/Glaciologist Meeting (AGM) in Zürich, Switzerland. The meeting serves as informal exchange platform for researchers working on snow, glaciers and permafrost. Oral and poster presentations are welcome, and young researchers are especially encouraged to present their work in progress.

Deadline for registration is 19 January, 2012.
