The University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science (UMCES) invites applications for a postdoctoral researcher in marine biodiversity. This two-year position will be located in Frostburg, Maryland.

This position is funded by a grant from the U.S. National Science Foundation’s Arctic Nature Sciences program and focuses on data synthesis and modeling of multi-decadal time series of biotic and environmental change in northern Bering and Chukchi Sea marine benthic systems. The postdoctoral researcher will lead the development, testing, and implementation of multi-species distribution models using data from the Distributed Biological Observatory to examine the primary drivers of biodiversity change from an unparalleled multidecadal time series in order to assess our ability to predict responses of natural systems to rapid environmental change.

The position is ideally suited to researchers with interests in species distribution modeling, ecological forecasting, climate change, marine biodiversity, and conservation. The successful candidate will be provided the opportunity to lead the research project, coordinate collaborations among team members, and engage with local stakeholders and community members in Alaska. Potentially, the candidate also could have opportunities to participate in ship-based field research for short periods, although this is not required and is meant to complement the modeling aspects of the project.

Applications must include a cover letter, curriculum vitae, list of references, and writing sample(s).
