Organizers invite registration for the 2019 Anchorage Arctic Research Summit, with the conference theme: Transforming Research and Scholarship in the North. This event will convene on Thursday, 2 May 2019 from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Anchorage Museum in Anchorage, Alaska.
Hosted by the University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA), the Anchorage Museum, the Arctic Doman Awareness Center (ADAC), and the Arctic Research Consortium of the U.S. (ARCUS), the summit will bring together members of the Anchorage-area Arctic research community to share information about their diverse research and creative activities, and to foster new connections and collaborations. The summit will feature formal and informal presentations and exchanges across the natural and social sciences, health, engineering, humanities, the arts, and governance.
Transforming Research and Scholarship in the North, will be addressed in two morning sessions: Transforming Research & Scholarship on Arctic Economic Security, and Transforming Research & Scholarship on Arctic Environmental Security.
The conference program will include:
- Keynote speakers Liza Mack from the Aleut International and Robin Bronen from the Alaska Institute for Justice;
- Panel presentations James Hemsath from the Fowler Center, Steve Colt from the Alaska Center for Energy and Power, Vanessa Lee Raymond from Convene North, and Anita Moore Nall, Arlo Nasruk Davis, Herminia Din and Tom Ravens—all from UAA;
- A panel discussion Gender and Research in the North during lunch;
- A tabletop discussion session in which participants will address a research challenge in the context of interdisciplinary effort; and
- The closing keynote presentation by Lisa Bloom, author of Gender on Ice: American Ideologies of Polar Expedition.
Registration is $50.00—coffee, lunch, and snacks are included with the registration fee.
Scholarships are available for students and limited income participants.
