Research Geophysicist Position Available
Cold Regions Research and Engineering Laboratory (CRREL)

Research Geophysicist. The Cold Regions Research and Engineering
Laboratory, Snow and Ice Branch, Hanover, NH, invites applications for a
two-year, full-time, Research Geophysicist appointment, DB-1313-02
($24,701 - $58,867). The position has the potential to be extended for a
third year and the individual selected may be eligible for conversion to
a permanent position at the end of the term.

The successful applicant will conduct fundamental and applied
geophysical research in sea ice, supporting efforts in some of the
Branch's ongoing programs which currently include: (a) development of an
arctic basin scale discontinuous sea ice model; (b) model studies
incorporating sea ice into general circulation models; (c) field studies
of sea ice physical, mechanical, and thermodynamic properties; (d)
analysis of sea ice dynamic and thermodynamic datasets; and (e)
observational and modeling studies of the interaction of electromagnetic
radiation with sea ice. A Ph.D. or an equivalent doctoral degree in an
appropriate field is preferred, or an MS with at least two years
specialized experience in the area of sea ice geophysics. The applicant
should have excellent quantitative skills and modeling experience. The
applicant will be expected to take an interdisciplinary approach to
research by initiating and coordinating collaborative efforts.
Experience in field investigations is a plus, as is experience in the
preparation and submission of proposals. CRREL offers logistical and
equipment support, computer resources, and a library that maintains the
world's largest repository of international scientific information on
cold regions. Research facilities available to the applicant include
laboratories, a cold room complex, an extensive inventory of geophysical
equipment, and Alaskan field offices.
