CONTENTS:
Our societies are increasingly concerned with the environmental impact
of the contemporary global warming. Polar areas, such as the Svalbard
archipelago represent natural laboratories where an evaluation of the
effects of this climate change is possible. Field surveys, satellite
imagery and geochemical and isotopic analyses allow to establish the
runoff calendar, to measure its spatial extension, and to draw up a
classification of associated landforms. Original tentative evaluations
improve our knowledge of the rates of geomorphological evolution in
polar environments since the last cold period.

PART I: Runoff in time
Ch. 1 - Water inputs of the hydrological system
Ch. 2 - Water outputs of the hydrological system
Ch. 3 - What water budget for runoff dynamics?

PART II: Runoff in space
Ch. 4 - Slopes : between frost and runoff
Ch. 5 - Moraines : glacial deposits reworked by runoff
Ch. 6 - Sandurs : formation and destruction by runoff

PART III: Tentative evaluation of the geomorphic impact of runoff
Ch. 7 - The seasonal erosion of the Zeppelinfjellet carbonate watershed
Ch. 8 - The secular erosion of moraines
Ch. 9 - The plurimillenial erosion of coasts

Conclusion: Runoff or the metamorphosis of polar landscapes
