Dear colleagues,

We would like to bring to your attention a special session to be held at
the Fall AGU (6-10 December 2002, San Francisco), entitled "Polar Air
Chemistry: Past and Present". The session description is given below. We
would like to encourage ice core chemists and atmospheric chemists to
submit abstracts, especially where the work of one of these communities
could enlighten the other. The deadline for abstract submissions is 5
September 2002, and you can get to the abstract submission form at:

http://submissions3.agu.org/submission/entrance.asp

General information about the Fall Meeting of AGU is available at:

We hope to see you in San Francisco.

Session A07. Polar Air Chemistry: Past and Present
Conveners: Eric Wolff (British Antarctic Survey) and Manuel Hutterli
(University of Arizona)

Description: Studies of chemical impurities in ice cores are aimed at
revealing past atmospheric composition and aerosol transport to ice
sheets. However, study of the present-day polar atmosphere is rather
recent, and has revealed unexpected new findings. This session will
bring together ice-core chemists, atmospheric chemists, and aerosol
transport modellers to discuss the implications of recent findings, and
to reassess the interpretation of ice-core chemical paleodata.
