Four Waters Aquatics in conjunction with Yukon River Drainage Fisheries
Association (YRDFA), Bering Sea Fishermen's Association (BSFA), and
AdTech Consulting Group, Inc. (ADTECH) of Anchorage, Alaska have set
forth to build a comprehensive inventory and distribution system for all
fisheries data collected from the Alaska portion of the Yukon River
drainage.

Since there are a myriad of studies, programs, and data sources for the
drainage area, it is the intention of this project to bring this
information together in order to provide a user-friendly, rapidly
accessible archive in a web-based format. It is hoped that the Yukon
River Fisheries Information Archive (IA) will facilitate more efficient
planning of fisheries studies, foster basin-wide prioritization
planning, as well as help to promote a coordinated expenditure of
research funds and allow users to become better informed, and thus
become better stewards.

Yukon River Fisheries IA: Project Outline

The first phase of development for the Yukon River Fisheries IA will be
to conduct interviews with all known entities who have participated in
data collection and analysis projects within the Alaska portion of the
Yukon River drainage, in order to create an Internet accessible "source
list" of ascertained data. The data will then be collected in Phase II
and made available over the Internet in its original format. Phase III
will work with other agencies to pull similar data together into a
consistent format and store it in an Internet accessible data
repository.

The Alaska Department of Fish and Game (ADF&G) has been working for
several years collecting salmonid fisheries data for the
Arctic-Yukon-Kuskokwim (AYK) Region. An inventory of this data has been
made with sources listed in a Data Inventory Report, which is currently
available from the ADF&G office. The ADF&G also has plans to develop a
web-based database for the salmonid fisheries data from the AYK region.
We intend to gather source information that is not already in their
inventory report. Therefore, the Yukon River Fisheries IA project will
serve to support ADF&G's effort, and through a Memorandum of Agreement
developed this fall, we hope to facilitate and/or team with ADF&G for
Phases II and III.

Yukon River Fisheries IA: Phase I

At this juncture in time, we are starting Phase I of the Yukon River
Fisheries IA. Therefore, we are inviting you to participate in this
project and become a part of this greater bank of knowledge. The types
of data we are looking for include, but are not limited to, the
following - as it pertains to the Alaska portion of the Yukon River
drainage:

-All Fish Species Research (i.e. escapement, juvenile, habitat,
hydrology, etc.)
-Watershed
-Water-quality
-Traditional ecological knowledge (TEK)
-Mining

Research summaries, along with management reports, in-season data,
habitat surveys and water quality reports, are all examples of pieces of
information that we are interested in inventorying at this stage.
