University of Leeds School of Geology wishes to appoint a creative and
innovative Research Fellow for a fixed term of 2 years to work on a
major NERC AFI funded project Basal conditions on Rutford Ice Stream,
West Antarctica: drilling and down-hole instrumentation.

The component of the research undertaken at Leeds will be largely
developing methods for processing and interpreting data from borehole
instrumentation installed in the ice column and at the bed of Rutford
Ice Stream. One field season of approximately 4 months duration in
Antarctica will be undertaken during austral summer 2004-5 with a short
visit in 2005-2006 to collect data loggers.

Applicants will have a PhD in geophysics, glaciology or a numerate
geoscience discipline. Good interpersonal communication skills
(including written), enthusiasm and commitment are essential. You will
have to pass a medical examination approved by the British Antarctic
Survey before confirmation of the appointment.
