Call for Informal Expression of Interest

Expression of Interest Deadline: Friday, 12 March 2004

The Environment and Landscape Dynamics (ELD) group at Uppsala is in the
final planning stages of announcing a Post-Doctoral Research Fellowship
of up to four years employment. The details of the proposed announcement
are provided below. At this stage, and prior to advertisement of this
post, we are interested in hearing informally from researchers who feel
that they might like to apply for this opportunity. The post will be
open to all qualified individuals, as Uppsala University is an equal
opportunity employer.

To strengthen the possibility that this post comes into being, we wish
to assess the level of external interest. We therefore solicit a
concise 'expression of interest' from potential applicants for this
post. This is not an application in itself, but it will help us in our
final negotiations at the faculty and university level to ensure that
funds are made available to us.

Your expression of interest should include:
(1) Your name
(2) University academic titles
(3) Address/contact details
(4) Short statement of your interest in this post (up to 100 words)
(5) List of your publications in peer-reviewed international journals

This can be very informal and should be sent within the body of an
e-mail message to:
Veijo.Pohjola [at] geo.uu.se

or to:
Else.Kolstrup [at] natgeog.uu.se

Please do not send file attachments.

Expression of Interest Deadline: Friday, 12 March 2004

PROPOSED POSITION DETAILS
This is principally a research appointment, in the area of environment
and landscape dynamics, but will also involve some undergraduate and
post-graduate teaching within the framework of the ELD programme. This
includes supervision of both undergraduate and graduate students.
Teaching duties at undergraduate level are limited to a maximum of 20%
of the appointment. The successful applicant will contribute to the
programme activities and strategic goals, principally through numerical
temporal and spatial modeling of environmental and climate change
impacts upon the cryosphere, both past and present, and how the
cryosphere, in turn, modulates these changes.

Currently the ELD programme conducts research in remote sensing/GIS,
glaciology, isotope geochemistry, soil science, and periglacial
geomorphology, with the major geographical emphases in cold regions. At
present we are engaged in research projects spanning the whole
Quaternary Period, but new projects will focus preferably on the late
Quaternary and/or scenarios for the future. ELDs strategy converges on
questions regarding the cryospheres future development (a subject
taken-up in the international programmes CliC, ACIA, AMAP, IPA, etc.)
and we expect to be strongly involved in these questions during the
coming years.

To qualify for appointment as a Post-doctoral Research Fellow you must
have a completed doctoral thesis/exam or equivalent qualifications from
abroad. Candidates who have qualified at doctoral level within five
years of the application deadline will receive primary consideration.
Furthermore, according to Uppsala University's appointments regulations,
it is also a requirement that teachers have the necessary skills and
qualifications to perform their duties well.
