Invitation from the Conference Chair
It gives me great pleasure to extend an invitation to all permafrost
scientists and engineers to attend the 2nd European Conference on
Permafrost in Potsdam, June 2005. The meeting is organized through the
European Science Foundation PACE21 Network programme and is sponsored by
the International Permafrost Association. The highly successful 1st
European Permafrost Conference, held in Rome in 2001, initiated this
series of meetings, and we plan to make Potsdam 2005 as enjoyable and
stimulating as Rome 2001.
The programme will be fully international, extending beyond Europe to
include all present and former permafrost regions of the world. The
conference will include oral and poster sessions, opportunities for
field excursions, and a lively social programme. The International
Permafrost Association will hold a Council Meeting during the
Conference. Contributions are invited on all aspects of present day and
relict permafrost and frozen ground phenomena.
The city of Potsdam offers an excellent conference venue, and with
nearby Berlin, a fascinating historical setting. The organizing
committee looks forward to welcoming you to the 2nd European Conference
on Permafrost, and to making this a memorable and successful meeting.
