The Arctic Institute has launched a search for a new Executive Director
to manage the organization, and they have selected Boyden Global
Executive Search to assist in the search. The ideal candidate will have
relevant post-secondary education, perhaps a Ph.D, as well as an
understanding of and experience with northern issues. Experience both
managing an organization and as a researcher will also be important.

The Executive Director is the key external representative of the
Institute. AINA and the University of Calgary have an important
relationship that assists the Institute in promoting its research
strengths throughout the global community. As the leader of the
Institute, the Executive Director is responsible for maintaining an
excellent relationship between the Institute and the University of
Calgary and for continuing to promote AINA's credibility with
researchers and administrators at the University. A strong communicator
and solid presenter, the Executive Director will build relationships
with key sponsors in industry including the oil and gas sector, with the
scientific community, and in the north. It is critical that awareness is
built in these communities as to the Institute's capabilities and
resources. As the ASTIS database and the collections expand, it is
important that community awareness of these valuable tools also grows.
An experienced fundraiser, the Executive Director will lead fundraising
activities for specific AINA projects in addition to focusing on the
day-to-day operating requirements of the Institute. This involves
dealing with key members of the University, the government, oil and gas
and mining industries, and maintaining active relations with relevant
funding bodies, including the major federal granting agencies.

The Executive Director is an employee of the University of Calgary
reporting directly to the Vice-President (Research & International) and
is accountable for the management of all fiscal and administrative
matters on behalf of the AINA Board of Directors. The Executive Director
provides regular reports to the AINA Board of Directors, of which the
Vice-President (Research & International) is a member. A researcher with
a passionate knowledge of the Arctic, the Executive Director facilitates
northern research via grant applications, understanding research needs,
and working co-operatively with research associates. As a researcher,
the Executive Director maintains an active and ongoing pursuit in the
Arctic field of their interest.
