The Joint European Ocean Drilling Initiative (JEODI) workshop "Preparing
for Scientific Drilling in the Arctic Ocean: The Site Survey Challenge"
was held in Copenhagen in 2003. The workshop, which brought together
Arctic scientists, managers, operators, and specialists, focused on
acquisition of adequate marine geophysical site survey data as a
pre-requisite for planning and safely drilling and coring the Arctic
Ocean. A workshop report was published by Geological Survey of Greenland
and Denmark in 2004. The report contains a comprehensive list of target
areas in the Arctic Ocean and the most important scientific questions to
be addressed in each case. A summary of available relevant geoscientific
data is also given in the report.
