Dr. Susan Sugai has joined the Center for Global Change and Arctic
System Research and the Cooperative Institute for Arctic Research
(CIFAR) at the University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF) as associate
director, the position held by Dr. Patricia Anderson for the past 12
years. Susan is a chemical oceanographer with the School of Fisheries
and Ocean Sciences at UAF and has served as associate and interim
director of the Alaska Sea Grant College Program at UAF. She also
currently serves on the U.S. Arctic Research Commission as an academic
appointee.

The Center for Global Change and Arctic System Research provides a
campus-wide framework for interdisciplinary research and educational
activities addressing the role of the Arctic in global change. CIFAR is
one of 13 NOAA-university joint institutes and the only one exclusively
concerned with arctic research. CIFAR is designed to be a focal point
for interactions between NOAA and the arctic research community through
the University of Alaska for research related to NOAA's interests,
especially in the Western Arctic/Bering Sea region.
