The National Academy of Sciences has been asked by the National Science
Foundation to conduct a study to make recommendations on designing an
Arctic Observing Network that would serve a broad suite of user needs
across the Arctic.

The study committee is holding a workshop in Anchorage on February 9-10
during which it seeks user perspectives of environmental data from all
sectors. It hopes to learn from a broad suite of participants about
existing and planned observing networks, as well as about potential
needs and applications for an Arctic Observing Network. The committee
would welcome any comments from the public during the discussion
following the panelists' opening remarks.

The meeting will be held at the Anchorage Hilton (Aspen Room) located at
500 West Third Avenue in downtown Anchorage, Alaska. To contact the
