The Department of Meteorology at Stockholm University invites applications for a postdoctoral researcher in Arctic climate processes. This full-time, two-year position, with the possibility of extension under special circumstances, will be located in Stockholm, Sweden.

The focus of this position is on understanding and improving descriptions of processes important for the Arctic climate in numerical weather prediction and climate models, and to study their role for the general circulation. The work includes both analysis of observational data, from expeditions with the Swedish icebreaker Oden and the multinational experimental effort the Multidisciplinary drifting Observatory for the Study of Arctic Climate (MOSAiC), and modeling with tools such as a coupled Atmosphere Ocean Single Column Model (AOSCM) and the corresponding global models OpenIFS/EC-Earth. Within this general framework, the successful candidate will be able to shape the project, together with the project leaders.

Applicants are expected to hold a Swedish doctoral degree, or an equivalent degree from another country, in meteorology, oceanography, climate science, fluid mechanics, or in a related field. The degree must be awarded to start the position and should have been completed no more than three years before the deadline for applications. An older degree may be acceptable under special circumstances, which may involve sick leave, parental leave, clinical attachment, elected positions in trade unions, or similar. The applicant should have excellent knowledge of both oral and written English.

Applications should be submitted online and include:

  • Contact details and personal data;
  • Highest degree;
  • Language skills;
  • Contact details for two to three references;
  • Cover letter;
  • Curriculum vitae, including degrees and other completed courses, work experience, and a list of publications;
  • Research proposal (no more than three pages) describing:
    – Why you are interested in the field/project described in the advertisement,
    – Why and how you wish to complete the project, and
    – What makes you suitable for the project in question;
