The science team of the NASA Arctic Radiation-Cloud-aerosol-Surface-Interaction experiment (ARCSIX) invites you to the first data workshop, a year after the beginning of the Spring campaign in Northern Greenland. The meeting will introduce the project to the larger community. An agenda can be found here. Beyond the introduction of the mission, the data, and the science, there will be dedicated time to exchange ideas during breakout and poster session, and we have a social event planned for the evening. The meeting will take place at the Laboratory for Atmospheric and Space Physics (LASP, University of Colorado), as well as via telecon. Please RSVP by May 9. There is no registration fee, and you have the option to participate in person (limited availability, first-come-first-served basis) or online. Logistics information and schedule updates will be provided to registered participants via email.

We welcome the opportunity to share our early results and engage with you all,
The ARCSIX science team

Rovaniemi, Finland

The Rovaniemi Arctic Spirit Conference will take place from May 5–7, 2025, and we are now accepting proposals for sessions to be included in the diverse program.
This year’s conference theme is “Elements of Arctic Security,” which explores security in the Arctic from multiple perspectives. Security in the Arctic encompasses issues related to human, environmental, and climate security, as well as traditional state security. Recent geopolitical shifts only emphasize the need for a holistic understanding of these interconnected dimensions in the Arctic region.

The first day of the conference at the Korundi House of Culture will feature keynote speeches and panel discussions. On the second day, at the Arktikum House, there will be a range of scientific and thematic sessions. Session proposals may include oral presentations and lectures, panel discussions, or round table discussions, and they may address various aspects of Arctic security. Sessions are expected to be 90 minutes long, with time allocated for questions and audience engagement. The primary language of the Rovaniemi Arctic Spirit Conference is English.

Session proposals are welcome until January 24, 2025.

Please see the full call for sessions and detailed guidelines in this document.

Seattle, Washington

The Consortium for the Advancement of Marine Arctic Science (CAMAS), established in 2023, aims to facilitate international collaboration and advance our understanding of key marine Arctic processes driving rapid environmental changes.

The second CAMAS Workshop and Early-Career School will take place15–18 April 2025, at the Center for Urban Horticulture in Seattle, Washington.

CAMAS focuses on these critical themes:

  • Drivers and impacts of ocean heat and freshwater transport into and out of the Arctic
  • Ocean-ice-atmosphere interactions in a warming Arctic
  • Biophysical impacts of Arctic marine biogeochemistry

Santa Barbara, CA

This 5-day in-person workshop will provide researchers with an introduction to advanced topics in computationally reproducible research in python, including software and techniques for working with very large datasets. This includes working in cloud computing environments, docker containers, and parallel processing using tools like parsl and dask. The workshop will also cover concrete methods for documenting and uploading data to the Arctic Data Center, advanced approaches to tracking data provenance, responsible research and data management practices including data sovereignty and the CARE principles, and ethical concerns with data-intensive modeling and analysis. We welcome individuals participating in Arctic research with a wide variety of backgrounds, experience, and career stages to apply. However, this course is intended for Arctic researchers with a solid foundation in programming (R, python, or similar), who have a need to take their skills to the next level to maximize efficiency working with big datasets or running computing-intensive processes.

Topics include:
Scalable computing
Cloud computing concepts
Docker environments
Remote computing
Parallel processing and concurrency
Large data transfer, data staging
Data extraction
I/O efficiency

Apply by November 15, 2024! The workshop will be held in Santa Barbara, CA. at the National Center for Ecological Analysis and Synthesis https://www.nceas.ucsb.edu/ (NCEAS) from April 7-11, 2025. Limited support for travel is available. For more information, visit the course application: https://forms.gle/uBgk5DauVXG16cBz6. If you have any questions about the application or the course, please do not hesitate to reach out! Utqiagvik, Alaska

The Sikumiut Field School will take place on the sea ice near Utqiagvik, Alaska, from 7–11 April 2025 and we are requesting applications from all sea ice knowledge holders

What is the Sikukuit Field School?
Sikumiut means "people of the ice" in Iñupiaq and the field school aims to bring together sea ice knowledge holders from Indigenous and scientific ways of knowing to create a learning environment that blurs the
line between students and instructors. Participants will learn about sea ice using methods based on Indigenous Knowledge, On-ice Observations, Remote Sensing, and Numerical Modeling.

Who should apply?
Sea ice knowledge holders of any discipline or career stage interested in learning about other ways of exploring and understanding sea ice are encouraged to apply! All attendees will be experts and learners during the field school. We expect there to be 14 total attendees chosen to participate. Applicants from U.S. institutions are eligible to participate.

How will we get there?
