As part of the Alaska Marine Science Symposium, AGU's Sharing Science Program will offer a science communication workshop focusing on communicating to journalists and policymakers on Sunday, 26 January 2020.

The workshop is open to all scientists, science communicators, media, and other audiences. One-on-one consultation sessions will be available the morning of Monday, 27 January for critque and evaluation of materials, products, and project ideas.

The ability to communicate science not only to peers, but also to non-science audiences is a critical skill. Whether addressing a group of stakeholders, meeting with a policymaker, or presenting to a fifth grade classroom, this workshop will provide attendees with the skills, tools, and resources that they need to communicate their science effectively, and attractively, to broad audiences. In this interactive workshop, participants will learn the importance of knowing their audience, how to craft science stories, working with unreceptive groups, and more, in addition to having the opportunity to become part of worldwide community of science communicators and policy advocates beyond the workshop.
