The Arctic Research Consortium of the U.S. (ARCUS) is pleased to
announce the next Arctic Research Seminar Series event featuring Heather
A. Conley, Sr. Vice-President of the Center for Strategic and
International Studies (CSIS). The event will be held in the ARCUS D.C.
office at 1201 New York Avenue, NW Washington D.C. on Wednesday, 1
March 2017 at 12:00-1:00 p.m. EST.
This seminar will also be available online as a live-stream webinar to
those unable to attend in person.
Registration is required for this event.
The ARCUS Arctic Research Seminar Series brings some of the leading
Arctic researchers to Washington, D.C. to share the latest findings and
what they mean for decision-making. These seminars will be of interest
to federal agency officials, congressional staff, non-governmental
organizations, associations, and the public.
This seminar titled "Establishing Norms and Practices for Arctic
Shipping" will be presented by Heather A. Conley, the Sr. Vice-President
for Europe, Eurasia, and the Arctic at the Center for Strategic and
International Studies (CSIS) and will discuss the future of Arctic
shipping, including areas of cooperation between Arctic actors.
Prior to joining CSIS in 2009, Conley served as Executive Director of
the Office of the Chairman of the Board at the American National Red
Cross. From 2001 to 2005, she served as Deputy Assistant Secretary of
State in the Bureau for European and Eurasian Affairs with
responsibilities for U.S. bilateral relations with the countries of
northern and central Europe. From 1994 to 2001, she was a senior
associate with an international consulting firm led by former U.S.
Deputy Secretary of State, Richard L. Armitage.
Ms. Conley began her career in the Bureau of Political-Military Affairs
at the U.S. Department of State. She was selected to serve as special
assistant to the coordinator of U.S. assistance to the newly independent
states of the former Soviet Union. Ms. Conley is a member of the World
Economic Forum's Global Agenda Council on the Arctic and is frequently
featured as a foreign policy analyst on multiple broadcast news
programs, including CNN, MSNBC, BBC, NPR, and PBS. She received her
Bachelor of Arts in international studies from West Virginia Wesleyan
College and her Master of Arts in international relations from the Johns
Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS).
This event is a brown-bag lunch that will be held in the ARCUS D.C.
office (1201 New York Avenue, NW Washington D.C. Fourth Floor). Cookies
and beverages will be provided. A live webinar is also available to
those unable to attend in person. Instructions for accessing the event
