At the Institute of Environmental Physics (IUP) at the University of
Bremen, Department of Earth Remote Sensing, is in the group PHAROS
(PHysical Analysis of Remote Sensing Images) one PhD position available
in the field of Remote Sensing of the Polar Troposphere.

The task of the IUP within the framework of the EU-funded project IOMASA
(Integrated Observing and Modeling of the Arctic Sea ice and Atmosphere)
is to retrieve atmospheric paremeters (water vapour and liquid water
coulmns, temperature profiles) from data of spaceborne passive microwave
sensors in order to improve numerical weather predictions (at other
institutes). The focus of this position will be to extract the liquid
water path. For this parameter the new sensors AMSR(-E) offer new
capabilites based on recent work of the institute.

Requirements for the position are a Master or Diploma in physics or a
related discipline and experience in one or more of the following
fields: Remote sensing, especially of sea ice and the atmosphere,
passive microwave radiometry, radiative transfer, statistical data
analysis, Unix or Linux workstations. Because of the European character
of the project as well a good knowledge in written and spoken English is
required as the capability to work independently and and focussed in a
team. The position is limited to three years.

The IUP offers a friendly atmosphere and an attractive equipment. There
are many relations to leading centers of remote sensing of the Earth
atmosphere and surface.
