Just a reminder that the deadline for participating in Cryosphere
Specialty Group sessions at the 100th Annual Meeting of the Association
of American Geographers, in Philadelphia, PA, 14-19 March 2004, is fast
approaching. Allan Frei of Hunter College has graciously volunteered to
be the clearinghouse for authors who wish to make a presentation with
regards to any of the subdisciplines of the Cryosphere, including
glaciology, climatology, geomorphology and periglacial processes,
permafrost studies and biogeography, remote sensing, and polar studies.
The sessions discussing current research will be called "Cryospheric
Studies in the 21st Century", and we will be seeking co-sponsorships
with appropriate specialty groups.

There will also be a series of special presentations under the title
"Celebrating a Century of Physical Geography". The first of these
sessions includes speakers on geomorphic, biogeographic, climatological,
and cryospheric topics, and the session is jointly sponsored by the
Geomorphology, Biogeography, Climate, and Cryosphere Specialty groups.
There are many areas of Cryospheric Studies that are not spoken for yet,
so if you could lend your expertise and give a presentation on the
history of your portion of the discipline, that would be especially
appropriate for this meeting.

Please send the following information to Allan Frei
NO LATER THAN SEPTEMBER 30:
-1- register and submit your abstract online (http://www.aag.org)
-2- email Allan Frei a copy of your abstract, and your Presenter
Identification Number (PIN). His address is: afrei [at] geo.hunter.cuny.edu
-3- please let Allan know if your presentation is on current research or
historical developments
-4- if you are organizing your own session, and would like the
Cryosphere Specialty Group to be a Sponsor or Co-Sponsor, please also
pass this information to Allan

The Cryosphere Specialty Group is a small subset of the AAG membership,
but is uniquely positioned to bring together in one meeting scholars who
study the frozen form of water and its myriad manifestations. The
officers and board members of the Cryosphere Specialty Group appreciate
your support, and thank Allan for his work on behalf of the discipline.

Sincerely,

Michael A. Palecki
