Many organizations have interests in the Bering Sea. US federal agencies with research responsibilities in the region have formed a Bering Interagency Oversight Group (BIOG) to coordinate their efforts. Members and points of contact for the BIOG are:

BEST serves as a US National Science Foundation contribution to two larger programs:
- Study of Environmental Arctic Change (SEARCH)
- Ecosystem Studies of the Sub-Arctic Seas (ESSAS), a regional program under Global Ocean Ecosystem Dynamics (GLOBEC). GLOBEC is a core project of the International Geosphere-Biosphere Programme.
