The University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF) invites applications for two faculty in cryospheric science at the rank of assistant or associate professor. These tenure-track positions will be located in Fairbanks, Alaska.

Successful applicants will become members of the Snow, Ice and Permafrost (SIP) research group at the Geophysical Institute and join the teaching faculty of the Department of Geosciences in the College of Natural Science and Mathematics.

UAF's SIP faculty, staff, and students carry out model-, remote sensing-, and field-based research throughout Earth's polar and alpine regions and commonly practice knowledge co-production with members of Arctic communities. Faculty members are responsible for establishing externally funded research programs, typically in collaboration with other faculty members across campus and at other institutions. Mentoring graduate students allows our faculty to develop an effective and productive connection between academics and research.

A PhD in Geophysics or related field is required. Some teaching and mentoring at the college level is desirable.

Required application documentation includes:

  • Cover letter describing experience and credentials as related to the requirements of the position;
  • Statement of Teaching Philosophy including a discussion of instructional philosophy and how you are prepared to instruct, mentor, and inspire a diverse student population (one to two pages);
  • Statement of Research, including experience, research agenda, and how your research will be relevant to Alaska (one to two pages);
  • Curriculum vitae; and
  • Information for three professional, work related references.
