Kawerak, Inc. invites applications for a Tribal Research Coordinator. This full-time position will be located in Nome, Alaska.

The Tribal Research Coordinator is responsible for staying up-to-date on Arctic research trends and research activities taking place in the Bering Strait region; for communicating with Bering Strait region Tribal governments about research activities taking place in the region; assisting Tribes in communicating with research entities (individuals, institutions, funders, agencies, etc.); and developing research partnerships and networks, as appropriate. The Coordinator will also assist with research projects, grant writing, the creation of products based on Social Science Program research, and writing comment letters to various bodies.

Qualifications include:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in from an accredited college, preferably in anthropology, biology or public policy, plus a minimum of two years of professional experience in related fields;
  • Experience leading or working on Arctic research teams preferred;
  • Must be knowledgeable about the cultures, traditions, and ways of life of the communities in the Bering Strait region required;
  • Experience in Arctic regions preferred;
  • Must be able and willing to travel within and outside of the Bering Strait region, including internationally;
  • Experience with grant writing and grant administration preferred;
  • Computer and keyboarding skills required, including knowledge of Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint and other applicable software;
  • Must possess strong written and verbal communication, organizational and planning skills, as demonstrated through the ability to organize meetings and people, and developing and maintaining professional relationships;
  • Must be self-motivated, dependable, and able to work independently with minimal supervision; and
  • Must have or be able to obtain passport and Alaska Driver’s License within two months of hire.
