The Interagency Arctic Research Policy Committee (IARPC) invites applications for co-leads for the Sea Ice Community of Practice. These volunteer, remote positions will serve at least two years as co-leads.

People from all career stages and from diverse backgrounds are encouraged to apply. The Sea Ice Community of Practice is connecting a community of Arctic sea ice researchers from across agencies and from international partners. It works with other IARPC Collaborations teams and communities to fulfill objectives and deliverables outlined in the Arctic Research Plan 2022-2026.

Community of practice leaders have cyclical and ongoing responsibilities that include:

  • Leading the Arctic sea ice community of practice in a thoughtful and inclusive way;
  • Regularly communicating and working in a collaborative way with fellow co-leads;
  • Acting as a resource and coordinator for community members’ questions and ideas on collaboration team activities;
  • Planning activities for coming year;
  • Reaching out to potential speakers for meetings and working with co-leads and IARPC Secretariat on meeting agendas and announcements;
  • Organizing and chairing community meetings;
  • Supporting reporting on community activities; and
  • Participating in annual leadership workshops.

Co-leads can expect to devote between 10 and 15 hours per month on average to their leadership role.

Applications should be submitted via email to Meredith LaValley at meredith [at] and include a brief statement of intent stating why you are applying for a leadership role, what you hope to gain from the leadership experience, and what you want to contribute to the team(s) you would like to lead; and a currently resume/curriculum vitae.
