The Briggs Geomicrobiology Lab at the University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA) invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Associate in Microbiology or a comparable discipline. This two-year position will be located in Anchorage, Alaska.

The postdoctoral researcher will be a key contributor to a multidisciplinary team of researchers studying interactions between microbes and critical minerals (e.g., rare earth elements, etc.). The successful candidate will contribute to development of research strategies, design and execute laboratory experiments, and perform bioinformatic analyses on microbial processes that can extract, bind, and separate critical minerals without the need for acidic conditions.

Experience with bioinformatics is preferred especially in the area of functional genomics, but is not required. Experience in any of the following is also a positive: metabolomics, transcriptomics, metabolic flux analysis, bioreactor operation, anaerobic culturing, microbe-mineral imaging techniques, or any other systems biology related tools. If desired, the successful candidate will also have opportunities for field research.

The position is available immediately and is funded for two years by the State of Alaska. Relocation expenses can be reimbursed up to $5,000.00.

Applicants should send a cover letter (two-page limit, 12-point font) and a copy of their curriculum vitae to Dr. Brandon Briggs at bbriggs6 [at] alaska.edu. The cover letter should highlight 1) applicant’s excitement and scientific training in relation to the research described above, and 2) evidence of their commitment to inclusive excellence.

Application review begins: 15 February 2023, but will remain open until an adequate applicant pool is established
