The Interagency Arctic Research Policy Committee (IARPC) Physical Oceanography Community of Practice team is seeking applications for co-leaders. These part-time, volunteer positions will work remotely.

The Physical Oceanography team started in 2020 as a self-formed team under the previous Arctic Research Plan (2017-2021), and has become an official Community of Practice under the current Research Plan (2022-2026). The community connects Arctic physical oceanographers and works to support the U.S. Arctic Research Plan objectives and deliverables.

Wilbert Weijer (Los Alamos National Laboratory) and Zhen Li (Bureau of Ocean Energy Management) are currently co-leading this team and new co-leads will join this leadership team. People in all career stages and from diverse backgrounds are encouraged to apply.

Co-leads can expect to devote between 10 and 15 hours per month on average to their leadership role. IARPC asks applicants to be prepared to commit to serve at least two years as a co-lead. If there are unforeseen circumstances that require leaders to step down before two years, they request that the co-lead help find a replacement in discussion with the other co-leads. All those selected to be co-leads will be trained and on-boarded.

To apply please email Meredith LaValley (meredith [at] iarpccollaborations.org) with the following information:

  • Brief statement of intent stating why you are applying for a leadership role, what you hope to gain from the leadership experience, and what you want to contribute to the team(s) you would like to lead; and
  • Up-to-date resume/curriculum vitae.

These positions are open to both U.S. and non-U.S. applicants.
