The University of Victoria invites applications for a postdoctoral researcher in ocean-sea ice biogeochemical modelling. This fixed-term position will be located in Victoria, Canada.

This position will be part of the Horizon2020 CRiceS (Climate relevant interactions and feedbacks: the key role of sea-ice and snow in the polar and global climate system) research project and focuses on modelling the production and exchange of climate active gases and biogenic material in ice-covered region. More specifically, the position aims at improving biogeochemical processes in the ocean, sea-ice, and snow using a NEMO based modelling system with ocean and ice ecosystems, sulfur, and carbon cycles using the Canadian Ocean Ecosystem (CanOE) and the Canadian Sea-ice biogeochemistry model (CSIB).

The project will involve close collaboration with other CRiceS research groups from Europe, South Africa, India, and Canada. The position is for a duration of 2.5 years with possible extension to three years with some flexibility in the start date summer/fall 2022.

Applicants should have expertise in numerical modelling (specific expertise in biogeochemical cycles and experience with the NEMO modelling system is an asset), and interested in working within a team and international research environment.

The position is situated at the University of Victoria (School of Earth and Ocean Sciences) with links to the Institute of Ocean Sciences (Fisheries and Oceans Canada) and the Canadian Center for Climate Modeling and Analysis (Environment and Climate Change Canada).

Applications should include a cover letter and curriculum vitae, including a publication list, and contact information for references.

Application deadline: 28 February 2022
