The Institute of Social and Economic Research (ISER) at the University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA) invites applications for an Assistant or Associate Professor position in natural resource, environmental, or energy policy and management to conduct research on issues with respect to Alaska’s economy, public finance, communities, and environment. This tenure-track position will be located in Anchorage, Alaska.

Duties include:

  • Teaching in a natural resources field within UAA and may include mentoring or academic advising students involved in research projects;
  • Disseminate research findings to both academic and non-academic audiences;
  • Lead or collaborate in developing new grant proposals for external funding;
  • Provide service to the University, profession, or community; and
  • Provide research either individually or in collaboration focused on natural resources issues of importance to Alaska, the nation, or the Arctic.

Applicants must hold a PhD in a natural-resources, environmental policy, energy, or a related field, including public policy or economics. PhD candidates with expected degree completion by August 2022 will be considered. Candidates must have training, experience, and interest, and have demonstrated research in a natural resource, environmental, or energy-related policy issues. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong empirical research skills, including expertise in quantitative, qualitative, or mixed-methods research methodologies, data acquisition and management, and public policy analysis. The successful candidate must also demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills, teaching ability, the ability to work in interdisciplinary teams, and the ability to develop research proposals and successfully lead and complete research projects.

The position is funded for nine months per year, and the candidate, once hired, will be required to develop external funding for the remaining three months beginning the second year of employment.
