The Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory of Columbia University invites applications for a professor in carbon management. This full-time position will be located in Palisades, New York.

The Observatory seeks to fill an assistant to associate-level research position in the field of carbon management, including marine, coastal, and terrestrial carbon. The realm of need includes the wide-ranging fields of chemical/biological oceanography, soil science, coastal blue carbon, field biogeochemistry, and forest carbon cycling. Remote sensing and integration with high-resolution modeling is needed in order to assess, evaluate, and eventually monitor the potential successes and downstream pitfalls of various approaches in enhancing carbon sequestration.

Eligibility requirements include a PhD in Earth or biological sciences, or a related field, and at least two years of relevant research experience.

Applicants should have established a high-impact, lab-based research program; demonstrated a record of significant research contributions through publications in peer-reviewed journals; demonstrated likely or proven success in raising external funding; and be able to contribute broadly to research at Lamont.

The successful applicant will also be eligible to apply for a Columbia University Climate and Life Fellowship, a three-year appointment that includes three months of salary support per year as well as a research/travel budget.
