The U.S. National Ice Center (NIC) invites applications for a Physical Scientist. This full-time, permanent position will be located in College Park, Maryland. This position may be eligible for telework as determined by agency policy.

The Physical Scientist will serve as senior expert advisor and National Environmental Satellite, Data, and Information Service (NESDIS) resource on NIC product needs, research areas, and collaborative opportunities by leading and managing advanced data techniques in support of emerging product areas. The successful candidate will manage multiple scientific/technical projects for sensing cryosphere phenomena, apply expertise in multi-sensor remote sensing of oceans and ice, with significant scientific acumen and understanding of polar processes and phenomena, and work with both domestic and international partners, focusing on the integration of relevant satellite observation data and services with policy and decision-making to meet National Environmental Satellite, Data, and Information Service (STAR) and NIC mission goals.

Applicants must have a degree in physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics; or a combination of education and experience. Applicants must also possess one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and responsibility to the next lower grade level in the Federal Service.
