The University of Buffalo invites applications for multiple graduate student (MS and/or PhD) and postdoctoral researcher positions in Arctic glaciology and paleoclimate. These positions will be located in Buffalo, New York.

Projects include:

  1. The GreenDrill project is seeking one student to work on Greenland Ice Sheet history using cosmogenic nuclide geochronology. This position involves fieldwork in north Greenland.

  2. The Ghub project is seeking graduate students and/or postdoctoral researchers for the following positions:
    2a. Ice sheet paleo-data synthesis and data-model comparison,
    2b. Development of big data analysis tools with applications on the Greenland Ice Sheet, and
    2c. Development of analysis and plotting tools for ice sheet model intercomparison project.

  3. A funded modeling project on the hydrology of Helheim Glacier, Greenland can include field work.

  4. The RAW project is seeking two students to use high-resolution climate proxies and proxy system modeling, in collaboration with other team members doing data synthesis and climate modeling, to understand the spatial patterns and processes controlling rapid warming events in the Arctic.

  5. The NICH-Arctic project seeks one student to use climate proxies and proxy system modeling, in collaboration with archaeologists and historians, to understand the connection between humans and climate in the Arctic.

  6. One student and postdoctoral researcher is needed for sea level projections using ice sheet models and observations.

Applicants should be highly motivated individuals with excellent communication skills in English (written and oral), and with experience with, or a strong interest in developing skills in, numerical modeling and scientific programming skills.
