The Migration in Harmony Research Coordination Network invites registration for their webinar, titled Building Arctic Educator-Researcher Collaborations. This webinar will take place 9 September 2020 from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. AKDT.

In this webinar, led by Jennifer Chavez-Miller, attendees will learn how to reach out and partner with educators on public programming, how to foster effective educator-researcher collaborations, and how they can improve their communication skills for younger audiences. Jennifer will share her expertise of collaborations from over 18 years as a public school educator, including research trips to Svalbard and Finland, and a recent National Geographic funded education project Vamos Explorar: Conserving and Protecting New Mexico's Wild Places. Attendees will leave this webinar with next steps they can take to begin meaningful outreach to interest students in their field and create a path to participation.

Jennifer Chavez-Miller is a full-time Education faculty member in the Alternative Teacher Licensure Program at Central New Mexico Community College in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Over two decades as an educator, Jennifer has taught elementary, middle, and high school students, and served as a curriculum coordinator and an instructional coach at both school and district levels. As a 2010 New Mexico Golden Apple Fellow, 2014 Fulbright Distinguished Awards in Teaching Fellow to Finland, 2018 National Geographic and Lindblad Expeditions Grosvenor Teacher Fellow, and 2019 National Geographic Grantee and Explorer, Jennifer has cultivated her own attitudes, skills, and knowledge to create opportunities for students to develop global competence and an explorer mindset using literature, technology, geography, outdoor experiences, and inquiry to connect students with the world.
