The American Geophysical Union (AGU) is currently accepting abstract submissions for the 2020 Fall Meeting. The meeting will be held online 7-11 December 2020 for concentrated content and 1-17 December to minimize scheduling conflicts.

Conveners of the following session invite abstract submissions:

NH028 - Using Remotely Sensed Data to Assess Socio-ecological Issues, in Particular the Assessments of Hazards and Risks
Conveners: Jennifer Schmidt, Monika P. Calef, Anna Varvak, and Christine F. Waigl

Remotely sensed (RS) data continue to grow as communities develop their own data collection initiatives and programs such as the NASA ABoVE project matures. Finding ways to use RS data to address socio-ecological issues can be a challenge because the data may be close, but not quite right, collected at different spatial or temporal scales than needed, or limited in its access and usability. Nevertheless, RS data have the great potential to produce novel information on hazards and risks associated with for example wildfire, permafrost thaw, erosion, etc. Finding creative methods and solutions to help researchers, agencies, NGOs, and governments manipulate RS data to meet their needs will advance science and help communities plan. In this session conveners are particularly interested in research that found effective approaches to overcome challenges of interdisciplinarity and data usability and uses RS data to assess socio-ecological issues such as hazards and risks.
