The National Park Service (NPS), Alaska Region announces the release of the more recent issue of Alaska Park Science.

Alaska Park Science is a journal published by the NPS Alaska Regional Office. The journal reports information from on-going and recently completed research in and around Alaska’s national parklands. Alaska Park Science covers all relevant scientific disciplines in the biological, physical, cultural, and social sciences. All articles are reviewed by at least two individuals with sufficient technical or scientific expertise in the subject matter.

The new issue focuses on fisheries research and includes several articles on Arctic parks, including:

  • Salmon Sleuths: how bears led researchers to previously unknown salmon streams;
  • Fish inventories on the Upper Kobuk and Koyukuk rivers;
  • Permafrost carbon impacts on Arctic food webs;
  • The use of eDNA in aquatic surveys;
  • How climate change is impacting snow pack and rain- and snow-dominated watersheds; and
  • The risk of the spread of Elodea, an invasive water plant.
