The Department of Environmental Science at Stockholm University invites applications for a PhD position focusing on organic matter degradation in Arctic permafrost systems. This full-time, four-year position will be located in Stockholm, Sweden.

The successful candidate will provide quantitative, observational data on the degradation of organic matter in permafrost systems to greenhouse gases, and on the factors that control the underlying processes on different scales. Practical work may include laboratory incubations, state-of-the-art biomarker and isotopic tools, and potentially field work. The project offers ample opportunities to influence the direction and approach of research.

The department is seeking a highly motivated person with a strong interest in permafrost environments and the biogeochemical processes that control greenhouse gas fluxes in these systems. Collaborative skills and proficiency in English are required. A background in environmental sciences, biology, geology, or geography would be advantageous.
