The National Science Foundation invites applications for a Physical Science Administrator (Program Director) position in the Arctic Natural Sciences Program, within the Office of Polar Programs (OPP), Directorate for Geosciences (GEO). This full-time position will be located in Alexandria, Virginia.

The responsibilities of the NSF Program Director include, but are not limited to, long-range planning and budget development for the Arctic Natural Sciences program; the administration of the merit review process and proposal recommendations; the preparation of press releases, feature articles, and material describing advances in the research supported; and coordination and liaison with other programs in NSF, other Federal agencies, and organizations.

Candidates must have a PhD in an appropriate field, plus after award of the PhD, six or more years of successful research, research administration, and/or managerial experience pertinent to the position; or a Master’s degree in an appropriate field plus after award of the degree, eight or more years of successful research, research administration, and/or managerial experience pertinent to the position.

An appropriate field is a science pertinent to the activities of the Arctic Natural Sciences Program (biology, geology, geophysics, oceanography, physical science, etc.). Experience is evidenced by lead-authorship in peer-reviewed publications and/or demonstrated leadership role in science projects.

This position is open to all U.S. Citizens or current NSF employees who meet citizenship and eligibility requirements. Federal Appropriations Law requires that Non-Citizens meet certain eligibility criteria to be considered. Therefore, Non-Citizens must certify eligibility by signing and attaching the Citizenship Affidavit to their application. Non-citizens who do not provide the affidavit at the time of application will not be considered.
