UiT-The Arctic University of Norway invites applications for a postdoctoral researcher in modeling of near-surface fluid migration across Arctic passive margins. This three-year position will be located in Tromsø, Norway.
This position will be affiliated with the Tectonic Stress Effects on Arctic Methane Seepage (SEAMSTRESS) project. The SEAMSTRESS project will investigate the stress field exerted at Arctic passive margins and how these stresses influence near-surface fluid dynamics and seafloor gas release.
The postdoctoral research will focus on the development of numerical models of gas migration, taking into account the effect of regional stress on near-surface pore fluid pressure. In particular, the focus will be on gas hydrate systems on the western Svalbard margin in the Fram Strait.
The successful candidate will participate in additional activities related to the project, including supervision of PhD students; participation in scientific cruise expeditions, workshops, and seminars; and presentation of results at national and international conferences.
Qualifications include:
- Doctoral degree (Norwegian or equivalent) in geodynamics, rock physics, petrophysics, geophysics, or a related field;
- Documented experience with numerical modeling;
- Strong background in fluid migration through sediment; and
- Programing skills (e.g., in Python or Matlab).
Applicants will be encouraged to learn Norwegian within a reasonable time.
