The Toolik Field Station (TFS) at the Institute of Arctic Biology, University of Alaska Fairbanks invites applications for an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) and Station Safety Coordinator. This position will be located in Fairbanks, Alaska, however residence at TFS one-half to three-quarters time from April through September and halftime from October through March is required.

The successful candidate will oversee one seasonal EMT/Safety Coordinator during the summer season (May-September), and will report to and coordinate with the TFS Facility Supervisor. Primary duties include, but are not limited to, training seasonal and full-time staff and developing Toolik Field Station safety program and policies.

This position may also act as operations, maintenance, or kitchen assistant when needed. Tasks may include fueling, driving station vehicles, operating incinerator, cleaning, assisting with on-site set-up and post season closure, snow removal, maintenance, and cooking meals for small groups up to 10 people.

Knowledge of emergency first response, hazardous materials operations for first responders, hazardous material storage and transportation regulations, safety inspections, emergency pre-plans, field safety, and first aid instructional methods are required for this position.

A Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, occupational health and safety, industrial hygiene, or other related field, and two years progressively responsible relevant experience (i.e. environmental health and safety), or an equivalent combination of training and experience are required. Professional licensure or certification may be required.
