The CICE Consortium invites attendance at their town hall, taking place during the American Geophysical Union (AGU) Fall Meeting. This town hall event, titled Sea Ice Model Development for and by the Community, will convene Friday, 14 December 2018 at 12:30-1:30 p.m. Eastern Standard Time in Independence E at the Marriott Marquis hotel in Washington, D.C.

Town Hall Description:

In 2016, a group of primary developers and users of the Los Alamos Sea Ice Model (CICE) founded the interagency, international CICE Consortium, whose mission is to foster collaboration on sea ice model developments for earth system research and operational applications. Conveners invite AGU participants to an overview of the Consortium’s recent activities and discussion of the sea ice modeling community’s potential paths forward. The Consortium aims to accelerate sea ice model development by providing a pathway and support for community contributions to its sea ice model codes. Presenters will provide brief updates on exciting new sea ice code developments including the release of CICE version 6.0 and introduction of Icepack version 1.0, a modular software package of sea ice column physics. In addition, presenters will discuss the quality control and testing procedures developed for incorporating community contributions into Icepack and CICE, and will elicit discussion from audience members and software users regarding their participation in community sea ice model development through the Consortium. This town hall is open to anyone interested in sea ice or climate modeling for research or operational applications.
