The Physical Oceanography Department at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI) invites applications for one or more full-time tenure track positions. These positions will be located at WHOI in Woods Hole, Massachusetts.

The Department seeks to hire at the Assistant Scientist level, however, exceptional candidates may be considered at Associate Scientist without Tenure, Associate Scientist with Tenure, or Senior Scientist levels.

Areas of expertise may include, but are not limited to:

  • Coastal dynamics,
  • High-latitude processes,
  • Climate variability, and
  • Sub-mesoscale processes and mixing.

Candidates with interdisciplinary interests in the interplay between ocean dynamics and biological or geochemical processes, or in the interaction of the ocean with the atmosphere, the land, and the cryosphere are encouraged to apply.

Scientific staff members are expected to develop independent, externally-funded, and internationally-recognized research programs, and have the option of advising graduate students and teaching courses through the Massachusetts Institute of Technology/WHOI Joint Program in oceanography and oceanographic engineering.

Applicants should have a doctoral degree, postdoctoral experience, and a strong record of scientific research publications in scholarly journals.
