The College of Earth, Ocean, and Atmospheric Sciences at the University of Oregon invites applications for a postdoctoral position in sea ice dynamics. This position will be located in Corvallis, Oregon.
The successful candidate will investigate the physical mechanisms controlling sea ice deformation in the Arctic winter. This position will contribute to development of a Discrete Element Method model of sea ice. One-on-one training in sea ice dynamics and mechanics will be provided.
Duties of this position include, but are not limited to, developing models, performing numerical experiments, summarizing results for presentations and peer-reviewed publications, and providing guidance to undergraduate and graduate students on the sea ice dynamics team.
Required qualifications include:
- A PhD in geophysics, engineering, geology, physics, mathematics, or a related field;
- Two or more years of experience in scientific programming;
- Proven writing ability, exemplified by peer-reviewed publications and written reports; and
- Experience with Linux and shell scripting.
Preferred qualifications include a strong knowledge in applied mathematics; experience in numerical methods and discrete element methods; knowledge of C++ and Python; and knowledge in one of the following fields: ice mechanics, structural mechanics, theory of elasticity, contact mechanics, or structural geology.
