The University of Gothenburg invites applications for a PhD position in atmospheric science within the Department of Chemistry and Molecular Biology. This fixed-term, four-year position, with possible extension to a fifth year, will be located in Gothenburg, Sweden.

This position will focus on interactions between anthropogenic aerosol particle emissions and mixed phase clouds. Ice nucleation and the resulting climate effects will be a particular focus.

The position will be connected to the Swedish Research Council Formas project, Human Influence on Nordic and Arctic Climate and Air: shipping, mixed-phase clouds, and particles. The project addresses key questions in current atmospheric research and contributes to an improved description of aerosol and cloud processes. The project includes fundamental theoretical, experimental, and atmospheric modeling.

The successful candidate must have an interest in environmental science, and theoretical and experimental physical chemistry are essential. Previous experience with Matlab, LabVIEW, and/or other data analysis and instrument input/output packages is advantageous.

Applications must include:

  • A cover letter with an explanation of why the applicant is applying for the position;
  • A curriculum vitae, including scientific publications;
