The British Antarctic Survey (BAS) invites applications for the position of Oceanographer. This fixed-term, four-year position will be located in Cambridge, United Kingdom, with field seasons in Antarctica.

The successful candidate will undertake data collection and analysis associated with the on-going science programs at BAS and will require participation in regular field seasons in Antarctica, including preparation of instruments beforehand and analysis of the data afterwards. This position will perform analysis of new and existing oceanographic data within a team environment, contributing to scientific publications and dissemination of results.

Duties include:

  • Assist in the preparation of moorings hardware and instrumentation,
  • Participate in the recovery and redeployment of oceanographic moorings in the Antarctic seas,
  • Assist in the preparation of glider hardware and instrumentation,
  • Participate in the recovery and redeployment ocean gliders in Antarctica,
  • Contribute to collection and analysis of ocean tracer data,
  • Undertake quality control and analysis of oceanographic datasets,
  • Contribute to scientific papers and technical reports, and
  • Any other tasks as requested by the director at BAS.

Applicants must have a degree in oceanography, physical science, or engineering.
