The Institute on the Ethics of Research with Indigenous People at Carleton University invite registration for the 2018 summer program. The program will convene 3-8 June 2018 at Carleton University in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.

The theme of the summer program will be Story Keeping and the Story Bundle. During the week-long institute, participants will consider the distinctions between different types of stories, the protocols/ethical considerations around who can carry/disseminate stories, historic and contemporary examples of storykeepers, examples of how carriers adapt to the evolution of ever-changing stories, what researchers need in their story bundles, and how a story bundle is developed, maintained, and utilized.

Participants will work together in small groups using case studies to work through the ethical issues involved in community engagement plans and research agreements. Elders and research ethics experts will be on hand for consultation. A model ethics review body of academic and community reviewers will provide feedback and all participants will be invited to share their perspectives in closing circles.

Registration is now open. Participation is limited to 45 applicants and a limited number of scholarships are available.
