The Terrestrial Ecology Section in the Department of Biology at the University of Copenhagen invites applications for the position of Laboratory Manager/Technician. This full-time, five-year positon will be located at the University of Copenhagen in Copenhagen, Denmark.

The successful candidate will be part of a project assessing emissions of biogenic volatile organic compounds (BVOCs) from tundra ecosystems to the atmosphere. The project will consist of laboratory and field measurements used to gain a better understanding of the controls of emission of BVOCs from plants, soil, and ecosystems. BVOCs will be measured using proton transfer reaction-time of flight-mass spectrometry (PTR-TOF-MS) and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS).

The successful candidate will be part of the research group and responsible for running the PTR-TOF-MS and GC-MS-instruments. This includes coordination of activities, quality control, problem solving, and assistance in technical installations, as well as technical support to the researchers. The candidate will participate in computer processing of raw measurement data.

Additional tasks include keeping track of field equipment, purchasing equipment and consumables, assisting in laboratory work, data management, and logistics related to the field work, including making travel arrangements, coordinating permits, and completing reports to field stations. The candidate has a possibility to participate in field work in locations such as Greenland.

The successful applicant can have a degree as a laboratory technician or a university degree in chemistry, environmental science, engineering, or a related field. Experience either with GC-MS or PTR-MS instruments is a requirement. Further requirements include computer proficiency and fluency in written and spoken English, good communication skills, flexibility, and the ability to work independently.

Applications must be in English and include:

  • A cover letter describing motivation, project-related experience, career goals, and personal qualities;
