The Clayton H. Riddell Faculty of Environment, Earth, and Resources at the University of Manitoba invites applications for two Canada Research Chairs (CRC) - Tier 2 positions. One Chair will focus on oil spill science and one will focus on sea ice modeling. These positions will be full-time tenure-track appointments at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor and located at the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.

Applicants with internationally recognized expertise in the broad fields of oil spill science (e.g., fate, effects, mitigation, or detection of oil or other transportation-related contaminant spills) and sea ice modelling (e.g., coupled ocean-sea ice-atmosphere modelling for both dynamic and thermodynamic modelling of sea ice) are encouraged to apply.

Applicants must have a PhD, a proven success in obtaining external funding and training highly qualified personnel (HQP), and be nationally recognized as an emerging leader in research and interdisciplinary scholarship. The successful candidates will be expected to develop and maintain a vigorous and independently funded research program that will be highly collaborative and involve local, national, and international partners.

The successful candidates will be nominated by the University of Manitoba to apply for the Government of Canadas prestigious CRC - Tier 2 program. Appointment with the University of Manitoba is conditional upon the successful award of a CRC-Tier 2 to the candidates. The successful candidates will be expected to play a major role in the Genome Canada project GENICE: Microbial Genomics for Oil Spill Preparedness in Canada's Arctic Marine Environment (https://www.genomecanada.ca/en/genice-microbial-genomics-oil-spill-prep…), Churchill Marine Observatory (CMO; http://umanitoba.ca/ceos/research/CMO.html), and other collaborative Arctic marine programs at the University of Manitoba.

Applications should include a cover letter outlining the applicant's interest in and qualifications for the position, a curriculum vitae (including HQP training), a statement of research interests and plan, a sample of three peer-reviewed publications, and the names and contact information of three referees.

Applications should be addressed to David G. Barber, the Search Committee Chair, and be submitted electronically, with reference to position 25128 (oil spill science) or 25130 (sea ice modeling) in the subject heading, to Sharon Kirsch (Sharon.Kirsch [at] umanitoba.ca).
