The British Antarctic Survey invites applications for the position of postdoctoral researcher in ocean/ice boundary layer modeling. This full-time, two-year fixed term position will be located in Cambridge, United Kingdom.

The successful candidate will run very-high-resolution ocean models to examine turbulent boundary-layer processes that control the ocean melting of glacial ice.

Duties of this position include:

  • Performing very-high-resolution simulations with an ocean model, such as the MITgcm or NEMO, to understand the influence of horizontal advection on the ice/ocean boundary layer;
  • Developing an ocean column model capable of matching the results of these simulations and Large-Eddy Simulations run by collaborators;
  • Testing and developing parameterizations of melting and vertical mixing; and
  • Evaluating these parameterizations in a coarser sub-ice-shelf cavity model.

Applicants must have completed their first degree in physical science/mathematics plus PhD (or equivalent).

Applications must include the application form, a curriculum vitae, a cover letter, and an Equal Opportunity Monitoring Questionnaire and may be completed online.

Application material may also be printed and sent to the British Antarctic Survey at:
