The Government of Canada announces a call for applications for two
research scientist positions in physical ocean modeling within the
Meteorological Research Division of Environment and Climate Change
Canada.

This position is open to persons residing in Canada and Canadian
citizens residing abroad. Should an insufficient number of applicants be
identified, within the initial pool, then persons residing outside
Canada will be eligible for consideration in this process. Therefore,
all candidates are encouraged to apply.

Application deadline: Wednesday, 14 June 2017.

Under the supervision of a research scientist from the Meteorological
Research Division, the successful candidates will carry out research and
development projects in physical ocean modeling coupled to weather
numerical prediction models.

Duties of this position include:

  • Contribute to the development of Environment and Climate Change
    Canada's numerical ensemble environmental prediction systems through
    research and development;
  • Improve Environment and Climate Change Canada's Lagrangian drift
    modeling capacity through research and development;
  • Evaluate the performance of environmental forecasting systems;
  • Collaborate with scientists participating in related research and
    development projects;
  • Provide external collaborators with technical support and advice;
  • Write peer-reviewed scientific articles and prepare scientific
    documents for publication in the form of in-house technical notes and
    presentations; and
  • Collaborate with programmers, research assistants, and meteorologists
    to ensure follow-up on implementations in the weather and environmental
    forecasting systems.

The successful candidates must hold a doctoral degree from a recognized
university with a specialization in physical oceanography or in a
related discipline with pertinent experience in physical oceanography.
Experience in projects related to the development of numerical physical
ocean models and in using observations for the purposes of model
analysis or verification is required. Publication history is also of
particular importance.
