Organizers announce a call for registration for the 7th Biennial
Symposium on the Impacts of an Ice-Diminishing Arctic on Naval and
Maritime. This symposium will bring together nationally and
internationally-recognized experts on Arctic marine operations,
environments, science, policy, law, and governance. It will include
speakers from the Alaska Congressional Delegation, NOAA, the U.S. Navy,
the U.S. Coast Guard, the U.S. Arctic Research Commission (USARC), and
other representatives from the U.S., Arctic nations, and the
international community. The symposium will be available in-person in
Washington, D.C. and as an online webcast.

Registration is complimentary, but required to participate in the live
symposium or the live-streamed webinar.

To register for the symposium, go to:
https://www.star.nesdis.noaa.gov/Ice2017/.

The symposium talks will cover three general topic areas, including:

  • Latest research on observed and predicted changes in the Arctic sea
    ice environment,
  • Present and future impact of these changes on Arctic operations, and
  • Emerging Arctic policy issues on national and international levels.

This event offers an opportunity to meet, interact, and share insights
about the impact of an ice-diminishing Arctic Ocean on marine
transportation; resource development; oceanographic research; federal,
state, local, and international operations; policy implications; and
other issues in the rapidly evolving Arctic region.
