Asiaq, Greenland Survey announce a call for applications for the
position of atmospheric researcher. This full-time, permanent position
will be located in Nuuk, Greenland.

The successful candidate will be an atmospheric scientist with an
excellent publication record and a well-established international
network. They will have experience with boundary layer research in the
Arctic, microwave radiometry, and the cloud/energy balance nexus or some
of these areas. Programming skills, processing of large data amounts,
and/or database handling are required. The successful candidate will be
working in an international environment, will have experimental field
experience, and a desire to live in Greenland. Excellent spoken and
written English is required.

The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining/calibrating
the instruments and for quality control, processing, and analysis of the
data. A climatology of boundary layer stability, inversion height, cloud
cover, and cloud type will be related to other parameters relevant for
the cryosphere (e.g., sea ice cover and snow pack variability) and
ecosystems (e.g., vegetation gradients). Additionally, the data will be
used for testing atmospheric model performance in case studies and in
connection to other monitoring sites in Greenland. Close collaboration
with international partners within the Greenland Ecosystem Monitoring
Project (GEM) and beyond is anticipated. Scientific publishing and
proposal writing will be an important component of this position.

Asiaq is a company owned by the Greenland Government and is responsible
for monitoring the non-living environment in Greenland. Asiaq consists
of mapping, geotechnic/surveying, remote sensing, and a hydrology and
climate group. Asiaq is leading the ClimateBasis sub-program of the
GEM. ClimateBasis' mission is to provide reliable data for
interdisciplinary ecosystem studies that cover atmospheric, water, and
snow parameters since 1996 in Zackenberg, Northeast Greenland, since
2007 in Nuuk, Southwest Greenland and since 2016 in Qeqertarsuaq, West
Greenland. The spatial expansion of the program also led to significant
new instrumentation with a focus on boundary layer stability and clouds
as an energy balance modulator.

The Department of Geological and Atmospheric Sciences at Iowa State
University (ISU) announce a call for applications for the position of
Chairperson, at the rank of full professor. This tenured position will
be located at ISU in Ames, Iowa.

The primary responsibilities of the department chair are:

  • Provide leadership for programs in geology and meteorology;
  • Encourage excellence and innovation in research, teaching, and
    service;
  • Advance professional development of faculty, staff, and students;
  • Promote productive relationships with all external constituents
    including, alumni, industry, and government agencies;
  • Foster productive relationships with a variety of entities across the
    university community;
  • Promote diversity and inclusion among all students, faculty, and
    staff; and
  • Facilitate faculty efforts to attract extramural grant and contract
    funding.

The chairperson also carries the title, "Smith Family Foundation Chair
of Geology" and in that role uses the earnings that accrue annually from
the Smith Foundation and Morehouse endowments to advance the teaching
and research missions of the geology program.

Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in geosciences, atmospheric sciences, or a
closely related discipline at the time of appointment and have
credentials appropriate for the rank of professor, including scholarly
contributions to the field that have earned national recognition. The
successful applicant will have a demonstrated record of effective
leadership or administrative experience in higher education or the
research community. Applicants will also have a demonstrated record of
accomplishment in all areas of responsibility (research, teaching, and
service) in prior academic appointments, with evidence of commitment to
supporting the teaching and research missions of a major research
university. Evidence of commitment to creating a climate of diversity
and inclusion for students, faculty, and staff is also required.
